Eight people participated in the trip to New Zealand, six in one group and two in another. One or more groups will travel down in 2005. More details will appear here in due course.
The plan for my trip to New Zealand is given below. The numbering starts the day I arrive in New Zealand to coincide with the arrival of the rest of the group who will fly directly from Sweden to Christchurch.
Compare this program with the one for 2005.

Sydney - Christchurch. Arrived in Christchurch twenty five minutes after my friends who left Sweden on 6th February. This is where we collected the rental car, fishing permit, filled
up our stocks of flies etc.

During the time I stayed with good friends in Christchurch the others drove to Omarama. This is about 300 km from Christchurch in a south westerly direction. This is where we will
fished in Ahuriri River, Tekapo River, Greys River, Mary Burn & Omarama stream. These are all excellent fishing waters.

Made a bus trip from Christchurch to Omarama with a detour to Mount Cook. This was an eight hour journey that was visually stimulating yet relaxing throughout. If you travel directly
it takes four hours and costs 35 NZD. Via Mount Cook it costs 85 NZD.

Drove to Mossburn. A mix up with the accommodation. They thought we were coming the next day. Fixed by squeezing all in at one of the lodgings. I stayed at the home of the people
renting out the lodge. A friendly couple. Really good fishing in the Aparima River, Oreti River and Mararua River was promised but the weather messed things up. The temperature sank to just a couple of degrees above
zero and the fish stopped biting. The summary is that we saw loads of fish but that they all remained in the water.

Waikaia. Actually, we should have moved on but we were offered free lodging by the friendly locals. There was a large meeting in the village during the weekend and they thought that
it would be a shame if we missed it. The meeting was called “The Dunstan Trail” and was the gathering of a number of groups of people who had taken themselves to Waikaia on horseback, by horse and cart or by foot
from a number of starting points in Otago. More than 500 (five hundred) horses! Impressive!

Drove to Wanaka where we were going to decide of we should visit the West Coast or elsewhere depending upon the weather situation, which is notoriously unreliable on the West Coast.
Arrived there to discover it was fully booked everywhere. Continued on to Lake Hawea and stayed there. During a stop in Kingston one of us lost a video camera, but the loss wasn’t discovered until we were at the top
of Crown Range on the road between Queenstown and Wanaka. Stayed on the west coast. Here we will fish the Waitahu River, Arnold Rough and Larry’s River.
